Dokuro – The Skeleton & The Princess
The goal is so familiar – you have to save the Princess for the Dark Lord. Still, you are not a hero or even a warrior… you are a nameless skeleton in the Dark Lord’s army. You have to guide the Princess from the shadows and spring her out from the castle.
The gameplay is tough, because you have to balance between both Skeleton and Hero forms as each having a number of unique abilities and traits. Dokuro also offers equal parts action and puzzle and you can save and stop – anytime you want. You can change the key configuration from the Options Menu to ease control.
The main advantage of game is the beautiful charcoal drawing inspired cutscenes that compliment its chalk drawn setting perfectly. The art and animations are pretty much unique, and while the game mainly uses black-and-white motif, the Skeleton is characterized by its unusually stunning color taste that changes depending on the the skeleton’s current form.
Each stage has ten levels, all of which require the player to guide the princess over and across a series of obstacles to safety. These include spike platforms, fire traps, or moving platforms. Even more inventive is the additional mechanic of drawing with chalk to reattach a box separated from a broken piece of rope.
The game can be highly frustrating at times, but it is also very rewarding. It allows the player not only to restart puzzles instantaneously but gives the option of skipping forward.
So, if you decide to buy Dokuro, you will not sorry not a single minute during the countless hours of playing!
